I'm seriously considering having dental implants and wonder if there's anyone with Type 1 who has had experience of this. Did your diabetes impact in any way on the process? Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi @Eldorado absolutely no reason why you shouldn't have this, I have one already and am due to have 2 implants this year, my dentist has just advised to maintain good BG control to ensure risk of infection afterwards is minimal, I have no concerns with having this, also have a very good dentist so feel assured he maintains excellent hygiene too. See what your dentist says ?

Hi Juicyj. Thanks for replying. I've seen two implant specialists and chatted to my dentist. I've made up my mind to go for it. Basically I'm having two implants and a bridge fitted at the lower front of my mouth. I have a gap where I lost a tooth so consequently have needed a plate. But I absolutely hate wearing it! So implants it is. Do you have any experience of immediate loading? It's what I've chosen.

I'm halfway through a single implant. Had back molar yanked, hole healed up, had "socket' drilled into bone, let the bone grow into base of "socket", and now having crown formed to screw into socket soon . No effect on diabetes, had 2 local anesthetic injections. It's been so long since I had the tooth pulled (last April?) I'm used to not having it now. If I were hard up for money I'd have skipped the implant (which will cost about $3,300 USD including the crown).
