Really sorry to hear your troubles, I am from Ireland, we have a different system here but nonetheless traumatic when trying to claim your rights, I would also like to share with you (And indeed anyone else who cares to read this.)my experiences with joint pains and anti-depressants.

I have been diagnosed Type II for 8 years now and its no joke when people who should understand and are in a position to make your life bearable as opposed to miserable are on a different agenda ruled by government cutbacks etc. but I digress, what I wanted to say is I am a non-smoker and (almost) teetotaler so having to take drugs of any sort really bothers me and when I had to have anti-depressants the Dr. went through a few different types till I found one that I can bear to take (i.e. it does not cause drowsiness or that 'spaced out' feeling) now maybe others have a different experience of it but it works fine for me the name of it is 'Lexapro'.

The other thing I would like to share is what I discovered (Actually was told in a "I'm not supposed to tell you this manner" by a dr. in the hospital on one of my many visits with severe debilitating joint pain mainly in knees) there are chemical additives put into our foodstuffs that are banned in some countries but unfortunately not in UK, Irl, USA and quite a few others, coincidentally the very same countries that have huge multinational pharmacuetical companies, anyway the things he advised me to avoid like the plague are Monosodium Glutamate = (MSG, E621, Flavour Enhancer) which are in most foods these days (and people are wondering why certain diseases and diabetes is on the increase!)
the other thing he said to avoid is juices, fizzy minerals etc with Aspartame (another dangerous and banned in some countries drug.)

My joint problems abated when I started carefully reading the ingredients of what I was eating (Warning: It it not always required by law to state that there is MSG is food, so you may simply see something like 'flavours' or 'flavouring' listed in the ingredients.)

Somebody else here posted that when they cut out processed foods their health improved! I bet if they checked the ingredients that MSG was involved, also what do/did we all do before being dignosed with diabetes, yeah, thats right we got VERY thirsty and drank loads of liquid refreshments, containing guess what? [Aspartame!]

Anyway sorry for being so long-winded, hopefully what I have told you will help alleviate your suffering and that you will have a more normal and painfree existence.

Oh, and finally, because of my weight and other issues I have like many others found exercise a bugbear and as a result was in a catch twentytwo situation until I found Tai Chi (Yang style), it is a Fantastic gentle way to get excercise.

Peace and Blessings...

Hi, welcome to the forum, what you told us there is very true, I dont ever use any additives, processed food, MSG or anything, nor do I drink anything with artificial sweeteners, I have cut out all chemicals years ago and I am feeling incredibly healthy and fit, (touch wood). I cook my own food, use herbs and spices for flavouring only and people are always amazed how good it tastes, many of my friends have seriously cut back on anything processed/artificial though not quite as drastic as me I guess, at least they cut out transfats.
I do eat out though and some of the food does have the nasty albeit tasty stuff in, and the next day I regret having eaten it because it has given me a hangover effect.

All the best

Karen

Thank you for the welcome, :)

I don't normally post, just read the newsletter occassionly and I was just browsing when I saw this topic and thought my two-cents-worth just might be something that could help...

On the Home page one of the menu items under 'diabetes care' is titled
"low-calorie sweeteners"

it says that amongst other things 'Aspartame' is safe for diabetics,[:0] now that statement concerns me, a lot! It is definitely NOT safe for diabetics or anyone else, (Google for Aspartame FDA Coverup there should be numerous 'hits' it makes scary reading!).

Why the article:evil: concerns me is that this site is dedicated to diabetes and I assume that poeople using the site are trusting that information supplied is trustworthy and reliable but I just have to question that when I see articles stating such utter falsehood.

Maybe I'm just expecting too much, but in my mind it is only reasonable that people/organisations that are in positions of being respected sources of information should be 'savvy' of the implications of what they are promoting as 'safe/benificial'

I think its fair to say that quite a lot of 'ordinary' people are aware of the scandal of these additives, so therefore I worry when those who should know better are telling us matter-of-factly the lies (unwittingly I hope!), passed on to them by those who are making money out of our suffering.

OMG! there I go again, is this my pet peeve or what???
:D "Just because you're not paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you!" :D

Bye!

Hello to you all i am so much better,i am due for another x-ray soon on my knees my DR has given me Nortriptyline to help with my depression, also i have managed to lose 8 pound, and eating healthier my bloods are down to 5.6 some mornings, the problem i had was i am new to injecting, only once at night Glargine-solostar slow release..and the mistake i was making i thought i had to eat before bed 11pm so i was having toast and banana and a yougurt,as i thought i would go in to a hypo if my sugars got to low panicking realy,i now realise this wont happen as been told by my nurse.
I have not had a hypo as of yet and i think i am eating to keep my sugas high, so not to go in to one stupid i know,if my BG is 9/10 i don't panick .

Anyway i must get over this and try and keep them low also on the DLA i am keeping a diary and going back to my local CAB soon to re apply.

I was in a 24 jeans i am now in a 22 so wish me luck i am on the right track, thanks again you are all wounderfull i will keep you updated. :)

Hey, You are entitled to DLA even if you work. Sounds to me like you would be entitled to the higher care componant of DLa which also makes you eligable for disability working tax credits. This is claimed from the inland revenue.

Hi Helen....positive news is that I too had carpel tunnel in both wrists. I had them operated on as I did not want to keep having the steroid injections. Mine were done under a local anaesthetic and healed fine, just had to be extra careful about not doing anything for 2 weeks ' The op cured the pain completely.

I have been involved in filling in many people's DLA forms and have found the hardest ones to prove are for people with Diabetes as the condition on it's own does not qualify. You need to write down all the other conditions you are coping with and if possible get a supporting letter from your GP or nurse. The section which asks about how many minutes it takes to do things is important as many people don't take time over it and the minutes are added up. Even the smallest thing like getting the soap out of it's paper, if it makes your wrists hurt then it needs to go down. Sometimes it helps to just take yourself to a situation with a notebook and pen and just work through the task and write down what is hard while you do it.

Even though you have registered for work I would still suggest you either appeal the decision or apply again in a little while as any money you were to be awarded would not affect your benefits from signing on as all DLA is discounted. If awarded it does enable you to claim much more while you are waiting for work.

Good luck with your ECDL...having done it myself I know it takes time but benefits you in the long run. Also once you have some relief from your wrists then you'll feel better. If they hurt at night hang them over the side of the bed! You can get the wrist supports from the hospital if you are lucky but if not they cost about £12.00 each. You can get them online.

Take care and don't let them get you down....Jual
