After struggling for the last while with my diabetes and other life factors dr has described me anti depressents the dr said its common for people with diabetes to suffer from depression has anything similar happened to anyone else

My occi health doctor thought I might be depressed and advised that I should follow up with GP, he gave me a questionnaire to fill in and said I was bordeline depressed, as I take Amitriptyline for pain (it is used as an anti depressant as well).
I think it is common with everyone to feel down and looking forward seems to be the same endless checking and checking, bloods, weight, diet.
I think if you have a goal to aim for it makes life much easier, it could be as little as saying every lb in weight, I will put away a £1 and at the end of the year see how much money you have, or one I would love to do, run a marathon or half marathon, physically it's a no no but I can try to reach there by doing exercise a little at a time, keeps me busy for an hour at least.
I have also done the really p'd off smashing of crockery, I go to the charity shop, buy some ceramics and when I'm frustrated I go out the back and break them, all I need is some Greek music. I then spend an age sweeping up the broken pieces, it is a good stress buster.

@Ross 33 Sorry to hear you feel this way, it is completely normal to feel this way, it's worth having a look through other posts to see how many others have been affected and how the advice given. I too have experienced this and was told by my doc that is was down to fluctuating bg levels, so have stabilised them by cutting out sugar and refined carbs, I also took up meditation which helped a lot as well as going for walks in green spaces. It does get better ;)

Before I was diagnosed I was happy and brilliant. I was diagnosed at 22; I took it very well, made life adjustments, and just continued trying to get the most out of life.

Nonetheless, I had a nervous breakdown 2.5 years later. I became an incompetent wreck with massive emotional problems, couldn't work, and felt like my soul and identity had been violated.

Very, very slowly I put together the pieces... I realised that fluctuating blood sugars do really bizarre, invisible things to my mind and emotions. I had no idea because... it's invisible.

Diabetes also created some massive emotional problems in my life. It ruined my relationship with my parents, largely because of the way mum reacts when I'm hypo.

I am well on the way to recovery now. What's helped me most is actually understanding and addressing the root causes. I pay out of pocket for a CGM, because it helps me achieve better control and reduce fluctuations. I am slowly repairing all sorts of things that were damaged - emotions, relationships, outlook, intelligence. I do take antidepressants, not because they improve my mood, but because they enable me to do more repair work.

I wish you all the best!
