For anyone interested, I finally got to go on my DESMOND course yesterday, 7 months after diagnosis, and it was OK. It made me realise that I have been incredibly lucky in being able to do lots of reading and background research and I have been in a position to make changes in my life already that have helped me manage my Type 2. For those on the course who had been unable to do as much of their own research I think it was really useful. For me, it just reinforced most of what I knew already. However I was also pleasantly surprised at the approach to low carbing, the dietician was encouraging everyone to cut down on their carb portions, and we had some helpful discussions about my low carb diet. She said that the approach is definitely changing and lots of the old advice is now out of date, and she would encourage anyone to do what works for them (as long as everything is in moderation).

Thanks for that info,I have mine on the 17th June, the first one, then 24th June for the second one...I hope it helps me to...xox

Pleased you enjoyed the course, it's always better to go such courses with a open mind rather than a closed one :)

Glad to hear you found it helpful. I did my course 3 years ago and was gobsmacked at how much hidden sugars are in well known stuff and started my action plan with fixing my diet. I still find myself referring to the manual now and again even though you can find a lot of info online.

I went on it a few months ago and found it very useful. I would def recommend it to anyone even if you've had type 2 for years.

I went on mine last month and I also found it reinforced what I've already learnt and like yours, mine also backed up the low carbing. My husband came along with me and he has now knows a lot more about diabetes.

I know what you mean. I was shocked at how much sugar is in a baked potato!

I went to the DN yesterday and have been referred for this course which should happen in a month or so. Sounds useful.

I went on my Desmond course today with a general belief it would be like going back to school; it could not have been different.

Very informative, especially what diabetes actually is and what your body does about it. It corrected a few ideas I had about my condition, and the discussion about BG testing confirmed my own opinions so I was pleased to get confirmation that (for me, and solely me before folks start jumping up and down) I am doing the right thing.

We got a slip containing all our diabetic info (last BG test, hba1c, cholesterol, blood pressure, etc etc - more info that I had seen put altogether since I had been diagnosed. We will now plot a chart on our future readings to hopefully show a general reduction in hba1c, cholesterol, and weight etc, and also develop a personal plan with the tutors to reach our goals.

I would encourage anyone to attend this and I'm actually looking forward to the second part next Saturday.

I have my second part this Tuesday,I found it very helpful, especially the way they explained about what happens to our body,it was in easy terms which I found easy to absorb...xox
