Hi as I am newly diagnosed as a type 2 my nurse asked if I woukd like to attend this class called DESMOND which is some sort of course to learn about this illness.DESMOND stands for something which I forget now. I am just awaiting a date for me to attend after they wrote to me . Just wondering if anyone has done this course and what does it entail .is it set over a few months/weeks and can my partner attend as she likes to be involved

lucky you mate , yes by all means attend , from those I know who have gone speak highly of it , there is nothing like it on offer from forth valley health board , allegedly something coming next year so that is no use to me who needs it now , but definitely attend it will answer all those questions you were afraid to ask and even the stupid ones , best of luck and an unfortunate welcome to the club , HBD ,

I went on this course about six months after I was diagnosed. It gives a very good summary of the current NHS view on all aspects of type 2 diabetes and is well worth attending. Over the longer term, you may reach the conclusion that some of the current NHS view is at odds with some of the opinions expressed in this forum and elsewhere and it will be up to you to decide what's best for you, but it is an excellent starting point. In my case, it was a 9.00am to 4.30pm day at our local health centre but I don't know if this is always the case.

Went on it recently and it was ok half the group didn't turn up and only 6 were there . Yes I think you can bring someone with you . Only complaint was there was an attendee who would not shut up about themselves and each session dragged on because they wouldnt shut up .
