Hi carb Foods
@johnholland71
Whilst you wait or that call-up, I would suggest you do your own research on what you need to do to turn your diabetes diagnosis around and cope with it. Ask here as , although not HCPs (mostly) we can lend our experience and suppport!

I attended a 'DESMOND' day - I did have to wait around 5 months for appointment to come through.
It is an NHS run information day on what being type 2 diabetic means, health issues you may have in the future, tests that you should have yearly and the NHS guidelines on the sort of diet they would expect a type 2 diabetic to follow.
I followed these guidelines for 9 months - the out-come - my medication was more than doubled because my blood glucose readings were not reducing to the levels they wanted me to achieve.
Then I found this site - I have not looked back since - although my doctor and my diabetic nurse are not happy with what I am doing but it is working for me so I am refusing to listen to them too much and just doing my best to stay on the low carb side of life.

Have done Desmond course it is a one off seminar you can do the full day in one hit or 2 four hour sessions.Is worth doing depends on you.Myself i found it useful 1.Was around others in the same situation as myself 2. Explained diet etc which was not forthcoming from gp / diabetes's specialist 3.Explained complications and how to avoid them which goes back to diet and exercise. 4. explained monitoring. Yes you can get all that from here and the guys and girls on this forum do an excellent job.but if your a face to face sort of person then Desmond can help

DESMOND= "Diabetic Education & Self Management of Newly Diagnosed". This is a 2 week course of 2 sessions each of 3 hours, run by your local NHS Trust. The purpose is to educate you on taking responsibility and making the changes to enable you to avoid Diabetic complications like Macular Retinopathy and Peripheral Neuropathy, You will aslo be advised what the NHS considers suitable guidance in what you eat and how much. Having attended the Diabetic Desmond Course, I found it helpful initially, but feel in hind-sight, it left much unanswered. Why, oh why did they not tell me about LCHF five years ago? The Course will be initiated by your GP, but the training is over-subscribed and tutors few and far between. Hope this answers questions from any Freshly Diagnosed.
