Device accuracy issues: Freestyle Optium Neo vs Agamatrix Wavesense Jazz

Morning all,

Fairly new T1 here. My doctors originally issued me the WaveSense Jazz, after being assigned a diabetic nurse at the hospital they then issued me a Optium Neo (which in my opinion, is a fancier more modern machine).

Long story short, the doctors won't supply me with the Optium Neo testing strips as they cost too much, therefore I'm back on the WaveSense Jazz.

I've just done two tests at the same time, using the same blood on the both devices. The WaveSense Jazz read 8.4 and the Optium Neo read 6.8. You can see my problem, which device is the more accurate and where do I go from here?

The hospital prefer the Optium Neo but the doctors prefer the WaveSense Jazz. It's not a small difference either, it's rather alarming.

Any advice is appreciated!

All meters have to conform to auuracy standard within 15% of the ‘true’ blood sugar level as measured from a venous blood draw
Very frustratingly that would make both of your readings ‘accurate’ .The most concerning thing for me, and probably your docs, would be if one is producing consistently lower results than the other which were also in hypo territory
If its was me, I might be tempted to do a series of comparison readings on both meters and present the results to the prescribing doctor. Id ask to be prescribed at least 50 of both types of strip to enable a comparison and would anchor the argument for that on the hypo issue

As @Boo1979 mentions, the standard for a BG meter is a 15% accuracy. Newer meters are not necessarily any more accurate.
In the example you have given, if your BG is actually 7.3 (if you had a super dooper mega accurate meter available ... which would probably be the size of an original mobile phone brick), both readings are within 15% of this.
However, as the accuracy is a percentage, this means the variation should be less when you have lower figures close to hypo.
Therefore, as long as you stick to one meter, you should be ok.

Hi all, thanks for the responses. I don't trust the WaveSense at all. I'm at home for the rest of the evening so I'm doing a little test.

BS is 5.2 on the Optium Neo yet 7.2 on the Wavesense Jazz.

If I feel hypo I'll test with the WaveSense and more than likely will be out of hypo 'territory' The Optium Neo should then show a hypo reading. This is the only test I can see working.

Doctors are trying to sort me out another machine, hopefully it's decent.
