Hi,
Just a quick question to anyone that has a Dexcom G4 CGM. Is it OK to but the receiver etc through the airport x ray machines, or do they damage them

Thanks

i would assume it would damage them the same as pumps - i wouldnt do it. I use the animas vibe and dexcom

Well I have never had problems with my pump through airport security and have travelled all over so assume that the Dex would be ok, I'm on an Omnipod which is wireless.

I wouldn't see any problem in putting the receiver part through the x ray machine but if unsure check with the manufacturers. I see no problem in not putting it through the x ray and just telling them when you come to it that you don't want it to go through, they usually are ok with it as long as you get it swabbed for explosives. I can't imagine that the PDM receiver is any different to a telephone or laptop with Bluetooth though, x rays don't effect them. It's different with the pump receiver as that's attached to you although easy to detach I don't want to go to the faff.
Going anywhere nice?

Hi, Just wondering if you had any problems at airport security with the Dexcom on your trip?

No major problems, but just hassle, they take it from you and swob it etc, one time it came back positive for explosives, I had to laugh, they checked it again and it was fine, but the security really don't know what to do, so to avoid all the hassle and explaining, I turn the receiver off and leave it in my hand luggage, and put it through the X-ray machine, and turn it back on when it comes out, and it is fine, the X-ray machine doesn't harm it if it is off.

Hope this helps

In dublin airport no, but in London yes, but it could have been anything, I don't think it was the sensor

I'm off to Switzerland next month & wondering if it might cause a problem considering the extra security.
I've asked my GP for a letter mentioning the CGM so hopefully it will be OK

Thanks again.
