Well I have now had the Dexcom G4 for trial for last week and I’m now taking this long term.
Its appears to be pretty accurate, only 2-3 times has the Dexcom given different readings out no worse than 2mmol/l than my Combo, and in some cases this seems to be when rising or falling. I have been very pleased with performance of first sensor that I’ve been wearing for 6 days now.
I still do BG’s with the Accu Check Combo as I normally would and then enter these into the G4, you need to do this before bed to stop the machine buzzing at night asking for calibration (it needs at least one calibration BG entered every 12 hrs).
The alarms are easily adjustable, the first time they go of at night is a shock if your didn’t put it on vibrate.
Delivery of units and sensors is about 24 hrs; you do need to pay by BACS to get this for those with on-line banking.
Software is very good too, but only seems to work well on Windows based PC’s, I also have an iMac on which the software is ok but I cannot get the USB driver to work so the Receiver will not attach to it and download results. I’m still looking to try and fix this, however, it’s easy to save and then upload patient data so can move data from PC to iMac.
UK distributor has a 24/7 help line, but if you call the US home of Dexcom they offer no help and point you back to the UK.
All in all I’m a happy bunny.
