Hi guys I'm planning to get the dexcom g6 self funded. Do you need to get go ahead from your diabetes team or permission. Or can you just purchase freely.

You can purchase freely it not prescription only nor control

You can simply purchase from the website

If in the uk you can buy the trial pack for £159 which is 1 transmitter and 3 sensors

If you are not buying the receiver and don’t have a tandem pump… then you’ll use a phone as a receiver so if it android make sure it compatible

No permission is needed from hospital diabetes specialist nurses, but there is no harm telling them.

About three years ago I mentioned to my diabetes nurse that I was thinking of self-funding Dexcom. Although it had been made quite clear that I would have to self-fund, the nurse arranged for a Dexcom rep. to meet me at the hospital, to show me the correct way of inserting the sensor. I seem to remember that the rep. had a dummy sensor for me to practise with.

Later on, I changed to self-funding Freestyle Libre, to save money A year after that NHS started funding the Libre.

To be honest the g6 is so simple to insert that I watched a YouTube video and was fine

The g4 was so much more complicated
