Dexcom G7 i-watch compatibility

Hi. I have just started using dexcom G7 and want to purchase an apple watch to use with it. Dexcom site says it needs to be watchOS7 but i can only find watchOS 6 watches ( series 1 and 2) or watch OS8 or above watches ( SE , series 3,4,5 etc). Dexcom technical support have told me it must be watchOS7. Is anyone out there using a smart watch with Dexcom G7?
