Dexcom G7 on the NHS?

I’ve been using Dexcom for years now. I just moved from G6 to G7. I use a pump but I do not use the Dexcom to talk to my pump. I don’t need that right now.

Anyway, does anyone else use Dexcom but get it funded via NHS, perhaps according to NICE guidelines? If so, how?

NHS offers Freestyle Libre but I cannot seem to find out if they also fund Dexcom.

I’ve tried asking my NHS diabetes healthcare team but response time has not been ideal!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

My DSN at my hospital recently gave me a trial of the Dexcom One, but after my 10 day trial I told her that I didn’t want to continue with it. But I wasn’t allowed any of the other models, as I’m not on a pump. After being on the FreeStyle Libre, from the NHS, I bought out of my own money the trial pack of the G6 and find it very reliable compared to the FreeStyle Libre.

Have you tried the Dexcom 7? If so how did you get on with it?

Is your pump NHS funded?

This is a summary that I gave in another post -

According to the current NHS drug tariff the following devices can be prescribed by either a GP or a consultant to ANY Type 1. So these are the ones that are 'on offer' in line with the latest NICE guidance.

Libre 2
Dexcom One
GlucoRx Aidex
Glucomen Day

At least according to my county's CCG Policy only a specialist consultant can prescribe the following CGMs and patients are subject to much more stringent criteria (chronic hypos, severe hypo unawareness, poor control in spite of pump use, etc) before these will be considered. While this Policy is due to be updated, I suspect in practice it will wait until the new NICE closed loop guidance is finalised during 2023 to incorporate that as well. So I will be pleasantly surprised if this Policy is updated before 2024...

Medtronic Guardian Connect (but I think this is only available if issued together with a Medtronic pump)

The G6 and Medtronic Guardian can be used for closed loop systems with compatible pumps, but L3 and G7 are still under testing for this.

However, in practice there is huge variation in what different CCGs (and individual clinics within CCGs) may currently routinely use and be willing to prescribe. For years it appears that Abbott Libre had the majority of NHS CGM business, but Dexcom has appeared as a recent competitor. The Libre2 and Dexcom One cost the NHS the same, G6 and G7 would be substantially more expensive.

Has your healthcare team offered you either a L2 or Dexcom One? The D1 uses the same 2 piece hardware as the G6, but downgraded software.
 
I have tried the G7- I liked it but was having constant signal issues-Dexcom customer services told me that it was because my iPhone software wasn’t compatible with the G7- so unfortunately I am now back on the G6.
Don’t get me wrong it’s a great bit of kit but it is more expensive than the G7 & can work with the current software in my iPhone

I've self funded a G6 for a number of years before recently switching over to the G7. Pragmatically my iPhone hardware and iOS software have been a critical issue for how well my Dexcom products have worked after phone upgrades. When switching to an iPhone 13 I had to use a Dexcom transmitter instead for about a year, before being able to go back to the phone App. Currently still iPhone 13 with iOS 15.7 - both G6 and now my new G7 seem pretty stable, but I'm holding off upgrading to iOS 16, as this is only OK with G6. :rolleyes:
 
iPhone 12 Pro Max version 16.2 now and using Dexcom G7 self funded. Works well providing phone is nearby. As reliable as the G6 which I self funded for 18 months. No noticeable difference in connectivity. Also use Omnipod dash and very happy with this combo as having great stability. There are some issues as nothing is perfect due to the nature of daily lives living with type 1 diabetes however trial and error re changing sites/pods where necessary etc works for me in the main.

@cait 57 That is useful to know. I don't want too many variables at once as have only recently started with G7, so delayed on iOS updates. But maybe now brave enough to get my iOs up to date!
