Type 1 Dexcom v Libre

How long did it take to get accepted for the omni pod system please, i too am on the libre2+ sensor but want to get the omni pod to compliment it, the email i got back said it could take up to 5 years to get put on it. I'm even on a waiting list just for a general appointment to go and discuss it, i have been diabeteic for 16 years now i know what technology will be of benefit to lower my overall blood sugar levels. I pay a lot of various taxes and have always worked full time, never off work ill, all i am try to do is prevent complications and further costs on the NHS.
Hi I probably waited about 1 year to start on a pump. I think waiting times are a lot longer now. I started on Omnipod Dash in February 2021 and moved to Omnipod 5 in February this year . I agree technology when it works is of great benefit to managing diabetes.

Dear Rosie9876,
When I lost connection, Abbott support told me it was because my phone was incompatible and I needed a reader. They sent me a Reader and a new sensor. A couple of months later, I switched back to my phone for convenience and a couple of months after that the connection got lost again. Your answer was perfect. Switch it off and on again. Shame Abbott don't know this since it would save them money. Let's hope that they read this forum since it is a very useful source of information.

I too saw the Dexcom 1 plus and thought I would give it a try. I just had one fail to start properly and when removed the ‘needle’ was not there - which was a bit of concern as I couldn’t see if it was still in arm.
Have had to recalibrate today when it was reading quite high compared to hospital reading..
I was using the glucose goddess app - but the Dexcom app doesn’t do an export of graph image for 00:00 onwards and so doesn’t work with the Gg app. I will have to process the graph somehow - as it does graphs of 1hr 3 hr 6 hr 12 hr etc. relative to now.
I’ve had a few scares because it sometimes says it has a technical issue and no readings are available (so needing me to revert to pin pricks and manual entry of data) but so far it’s not failed.
I’m self funding as I’m managing diabetes type-2 by diet and not medication - and for some stupid reason NHS will not fund even the meter or sticks let along CGM.
It’s of very similar size to Libre-2 plus which I’d prefer but it does cost more than Dexcom.
I didn’t like GlucoRx CGM it’s less expensive but it was stomach placed and larger. Although I have been told there is a new one which is similar to Libre-2 plus and Dexcom 1 plus in size and can go on arm.
So far Dexcom were prompt in replacing the failed sensor and did provide me with a sensor when my order for 2/3 months was delayed (you need 3 a month compared to 2 of the other brands).
So it’s trial to see how well it works with other reporting tools for spikes etc. and cost vs accuracy and failures.

I still use the Libre 2 & it works nears as can be flawless as a CGM..
I even use a smart watch to relay the numbers?
@Jaylee , the Libre 2 sensors will be discontinued from August this year. You need to speak to your diabeets team and get your prescription changed to the 2+. They work exactly the same as the 2 except they last 15 days not 14. Accuracy is improved as well according to the MARD figure.

Hi Marc,

Cheers for the heads up. :)

Funny long story cut short.
Beginning of this year I was notified by my surgery of the change to the plus.
I was also reassured in the message the Abbott app would work with the libre 2+ in the message.
I had done the research & was confident of a flawless upgrade with my monitoring set up?

But the chemist has still been issuing Libre 2s & oddly both apps when starting a new L2 thinks they finish in “15” days. The actuality is the normal 14..
Now today I’ve just started a new Libre 2, but I’ve just got a new prescription aswell.
I always order Libres prior to fitting the last sensor incase of potential sensor error??
To date, I’ve only ever had 1 needing replacement from Abbott in the 5 or 6 years using them?

Anyways. Guess what?
The new prescription to my surprise checking the prescription contents in the bag, is Libre 2+.

I’ll look forward to finding out in 2 weeks…

I’ve just been given the Libre 2+ but I think you have to wave your phone over the sensor to get a reading.
Hi You just have to do that when starting the sensor. Thereafter it should take readings automatically.

Hope it works ok

Hi,

Some of the phones I’ve had the sensor needs to be pretty much held in contact to where the NFC areal is situated in the phone. Usually on the back near a camera lense? Or lower middle. Some phone batteries have a NFC areal on the battery with Samsungs?

But once the initial “handshake” (connection. So the phone recognises the sensor.) is done. The phone should take data from the sensor via Bluetooth connection, giving the CGM experience.
You should get a 3 tone beep & or a rattle on your phone with a sucessful scan in librelink?
Both BT & NFC need to be enabled on your phone…

Hope this helps?

I have been changed to a Dexcom One plus but find they keep failing. Is the Libre 2 plus continuous or do you still have to actively wave your phone over the sensor every time you want to see your reading please?
You should have a controller or pdm with the libra 2 and get your results on that

If you wish to view your readings in the Logbook, which is all your medical support can see, and the only place you can record your carbohydrates intake, then waving is the best option. You can view results simply by opening the LibreLink App, if you start the sensor with your phone, and then have an option to add a note. If you take the Add Note option, it appears in your Logbook.

One can also transfer via BT any doses of insulin from the Novopen 6, too?
It will also record the “airshot” priming the needle. But this can be logged as a “flow check?” (To avoid confusion.)

This is interesting for me.i have been using Libre for many years. When my consultant agreed to a closed loop I asked for a Dexcom but Cambridge wouldn't find it. I've been having more and more problems with my Libre 2 Plus not connecting with my Omnipod. I was told by the helpline today that I should ask for the Dexcom. Wish me luck. ☹️☹️

Hi Jaylee, I think the transfer of readings with the Novopen 6 is via NFC rather than Bluetooth, unless the newer ones have functionality mine doesn't.

Yer right.
It is via NFC touching the dose dial to:the back of the phone..
I got no idea why I wrote BT.

Cheers for that!
