I have recently undergone a Total Elbow replacement operation and wonder if this is common in Diabetics?.I realise the similarities between rhematoid arthritus and diabetes in that the body destroys parts of itself.

Sorry I have no idea about this, but I saw you had no replies, so I replied to bump the question to the top of the list, hopefully someone might just spot the message and can help you more.
Not exactly a reply but I have found that since lowering carbs and thus keeping by bg under 6, my arthritis has been tons better. This is finger/thumb pain and stiff other joints, I'm talking about. So am well pleased. I also understand that stress hormones (cortisol) floating around in the body endlessly for years also brings on arthritis-like symptoms.
I think it depends on the type of diabetes and arthritis. As I understand it Rheumatoid Arthritis and type 1 Diabetes along with a number of other diseases including MS are autoimmune diseases and from what I read there is a slightly higher risk associated with having one type of autoimmune diseases that you will get another.
