Diagnosed 5th Oct - fasting BS 16.0 not good. I have a track record for dealing with problems - after 3 years on crutches I trained for the Loch Ness Marathon. I'm not perfect - first time out I only did 17 miles, so I went back, finished it, got my medal. I was asthmatic. I spent years training on exercises to strength intercostal muscles and lungs. I now use an inhaler once or twice a year. (Technically, I think I still have asthma - there's no cure, but I wnet from becotide and ventalin 4 times a day, to ventalin twice a year) I won!. So diabetes: I cut out everything except meat, fish, eggs, green veg, onions, garlic, tomatoes and red peppers. I eat the occasional sweet potato. I drink black tea, black coffee and water.I occassionally have that bergen bread - not sure of I love it or hate it. I sometimes have a small sip of cherry juice (gout) and sometimes for breakfast I will have a table spoon of oaty cereal and a splash of milk. snacks: nuts and cheese.
Since diagnosis I have lost over 61 lbs. I haven't felt this good in at least 10 years. Blood pressure and cholesterol problems are behind me too (and staying that way. 2x metformin a day, regular exercise and dog walks.
Bearing in mind my previous heart problems, the diabetes and its effects on diet etc, has probably extended my life. More weight to loose. I'm half way there!
