Type 2 Diabetes and Bell’s Palsy.

10 days ago I was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy at a&e. The doctor put me on 50mg of Prednisolone tablets for ten days and to follow up with my gp.
Today, contacted my gp and informed her that there had been a big improvement albeit still slight weakness on my right side.
Her reply stunned me, she said because I was diabetic she wouldn’t prescribe steroids and would wait and evaluate, bearing in mind the a&e doctor said the prognosis was good because they started treatment within 72 hours.
Could I please have your thoughts as there seems to be conflicting ideas?

I don't know anything about Bell's Palsy but I understand there is a reluctance to prescribe steroids to people with diabetes as it will raise our blood sugars.
That does not mean they are never prescribed to us but there is some reluctance and an understandable desire to try alternatives.

I had Bell’s Palsy, I was prescribed Prednisolone for 7 days, to reduce inflammation. No option for a refill, I was told to take B12. Though this was pre diabetes.

Best of luck with your recovery,

Thank you for your response, unfortunately GP isn’t looking for an alternative, just to ride it out and see what happens....
