Hello there!

I'm Ana and I'm new to the forum but not the diabetes itself, because I've been diagnosed 28 years ago when I was 3 years old.

My concern now is I used to have irregular menstruation but I didn't take care of it or go to any doctor (I know, I know... my fault) for that until 2 weeks ago when I had a blood test exam and the GP said to me I may have an early menopause because my estrogens are low. Is that common? I have not have my period since 2 months and that because I was on the pill but I haven't been taken since then because people say is bad for you taking it for long time and I was like 6 months taking it and having my period normally.

Now I have to wait 5 more weeks to have another blood test done to confirm the diagnosis.

Do you think it could be any other cause for the low estrogen? Like PCOS? I may already have osteoatritis because my knees hurt sometimes and since yesterday my neck cracks everytime I turn left.

Is anyone who had the same symptoms? I'm originally from Spain and I have no family or friends here so I really don't know how to cope with this new information and how improve my quality of life in the future.

Hi, there is lots of reasons to start menopause early, including genetics. 6 months on the pill isn't a long time, generally they mean years not months when they say a long time. As you already had irregular periods coming off the pill can cause disruption.
Only the blood test will show if you are starting menopause but at your age I would ask for HRT and a bone scan

Hi @Anasyx :)

Some studies have suggested that women with diabetes may have a slightly earlier menopause, but you're still young and those studies were talking about a possible slightly earlier one not years and years earlier.

I would ask your doctor to rule out PCOS and any other problems that may be causing this.

If it does turn out to be premature menopause, ask to be referred to a specialist as soon as you can so that you can explore your options.
