diabetes and life assurance

My partner looks like she is about to be diagnosed with diabetes. Does anyone know if we have to tell our life assurance provider. And if we do are they likely to load the premium.

If you are already diagnosed when you take out a policy the premiums are going to be much higher that an equivalent application without diabetes. I can't say for sure what an insurer would do if you become diabetic AFTER the policy has started. However, you would need to inform the company of any diagnosis and the loading of the premium will vary for T1 orT2 diabetes. The following link may be of some use:

Hope that helps a bit.

Any existing policies were underwritten at the time of inception and based on your health then. You do not need to notify them and your premiums won't alter. You will have to disclose the diabetes on any future applications.

Getting life insurance as a diabetic can be difficult. It is important when filling in a life insurance policy application form, such as the diabetic life form, to declare both your diabetes and any complications resulting from it. Failure to do so could lead to an insurance company ruling non-disclosure in your case, and invalidating any claims that you make.

Unfortunately, premiums on life insurance for diabetics are likely to be higher than for non-diabetics, as it has been proven that diabetes sufferers are a higher risk.
