being a diabetic and finding restrictions.to life style. people who do not understand the problems one has. not being able to afford to come back to uk for holidays as often, quite expensive. miss some foods that the French do not do. but can live with that French drivers. who love to tail gate. and they love to drive over the white line. in rural areas they are a pain. but get use to it. does put the wind up you. But driving in the UK found that drivers want to get as close as they can. and the traffic. it took me 25 minutes to get to friends house which was less then a mile away. due to traffic.
Hi I am new to all this have been diagnosed as type 2. but having a big problem keeping my reading low. Ok not too good on diets etc, I am not overweight. but take a few extra tablets for other problems. which I often wonder if they do not interact well with diamicron/.Glavus. My Doctor says that if I do not reduce my readings he considers putting me on insulin. That is not the way I want to go. As I feel fine. and eat reasonably healthy. Have not had any problems except when I have the tests. then it is out the window........... have been 9.3 and 9.4 just cannot get below that. stopped eating goodies, cakes, biscuits well one or two. I do eat bread. and drink coffee always have a main meal at night but when checking for reading on portable it is 130......... and in the morning like today before eating it was 173
I live in France and they seem to be more for insulin then the UK. I just need to sort out my diet I have read the blogs, very interesting will look into it.
Can anyone suggest what is the best way to reduce the daily reading. apart from starving myself. I have yoguart and always fresh veg chicken/ porc/ rice white
fish but when taken a reading either I am really down or too high. I
I was told coreect or not that if my reading was high in the morning not to take diamicron that day. I really do not know what is right.
Hope this is not too boring and expect many people have heard this one before. But difficult to speak about this in France. so hope that someone can help. Many thanks for reading this south71

The reason why you might not take diamicron (gliclazide) is that if your blood sugar is too low, then you may have a hypo. I believe that your 173 is 9.6 in mmol, so I would definitely be taking the gliclazide and looking at the websites listed above to adjust your diet.

Totto: Many thanks have looked at diet doctor site. Looks like I will have to control my food intake.do find it difficult
There are soo many nice things you actually can eat so once you get used to it its very simple. The major challenge for many is to accept fat as something good instead of evil.

Watch out for hypos if you turn low carb quickly as this kind of diet can reduce bg immediately. You may need to reduce your meds. Keep testing.

Hi denise, looked at your reply. I do find that as said one minute it is low and then high When having the test way over the top I think that galvus should help reduce the sugar level. but do not really know enough, have looked it up. do not like the reports on this tablet. It is bad enough having to take these pills, plus the ones I am already taking. I feel that I should rattle. How come some people are able to survive well without the tablets. Friends who have this problem seem to be able to handle it. well so they say.
But will try again. not looking forward to seeing the Dr. as said in France they want you to go on insulin. I refused at the beginning. as I felt that I could control it. But not doing so good. French are more for insulin then tablets. Many thanks for input. will try and do better South711

You know Totto, I have been cutting down on butter, just scrape it on. and have not had cheese for ages, as thought that would not help . seem to have all wrong.

Hi. Diamicron is the same as Gliclazide and stimulates the pancreas. I do not understand any advice to not take this when your blood sugar is high; I would have expected the opposite so I think you need a serious conversation with the GP or seek a second opinion. I was on Gliclazide before insulin and had this increased in stages as my blood sugar continued to rise. If reducing your carbs doesn't work then it's possible you are actually a Late onset T1 like myself and others, so be prepared for insulin which is best started early rather than starving yourself. It's the best thing that happened to me when tablets failed and I was starving myself. It's not the problem it once was and you can eat fairly freely!

Hi, thanks for information. I could have got it wrong. sometimes the translation does not help I will have chat with the Dr. I really am not happy about going onto insulin. give me the gitters.... I do not like needles at the best of times. and this fear does not help going on insulin.
I have learnt a lot and will try to sort myself out as mentioned before carbs were very low on my list. As thought they were the cause of high blood sugar. so cut them out. just took a reading 128. 7.30 am Better this morning. Have to say though, have not had any side effects. thank for info.
