Hi all, this is my first post on the forum so please excuse me if it's not in the right place. Also, I understand this looks like an essay but if anyone could read it and give me their thoughts, I would appreciate it greatly.
Basically my girlfriend has been losing weight and showing all the signs of type one diabetes the last few weeks. That is tiredness, nausea, dry mouth, pain in legs etc.
She went to the doctors the other morning and was immediately sent to the hospital where she was confirmed as having diabetes (I do not yet know which type).
While she was being told this, they also, as a very big shock to us, told her she was pregnant. They said that the pregnancy hormone had showed up in the results. She explained to them that this wouldn't be very likely as we have only had intercourse twice, and on both occasions I used a condom and withdrawal methods simultaneously (about 12 weeks ago). She also says that she has been having periods every month.
From what I understand, this was what they found from a urine test, although I cannot be completely sure as it was a blood test that made the doctors direct her to the hospital in the first place.
The doctor then said that were was a small possibility that it could be a mistake. He said that because she was so dehydrated/ exhibiting the symptoms of diabetes that a mistake or hormone anomaly may have occurred somewhere. She then asked a second doctor for his opinion, and he said that pregnancy was very unlikely.
Obviously this is causing us both a lot of stress because we don't know what to think. They then took a blood sample from her and said that she would know by the end of that night if she was pregnant. Its been over a day now from when she was supposed to be told, and she is under the impression that the doctors do have her results.
She is still in hospital, and has been moved from a high care unit to a normal one. She is under the impression that if she was pregnant they must have told her by now. Pregnancy has not been mentioned to her again since she was admitted.
I don't know what to think, it's highly frustrating that she was told she was pregnant, then given some degree of reassurance, only to be kept waiting. Would pregnancy not need to be monitored in this situation? She also says she has been given injections in the stomach which further giver her the impression that she might not be pregnant. Has anyone been in a similar situation?
