Diabetes and Safety Footwear

Hi.
Can anyone advise on the wearing of safety footwear and how to minimise/illiminate the damaging of toe nails when wearing them please, is there any footwear out there designed for diabetics?

I am a Safety Consultant and have recently been approached by a company worker stating that his footwear is causing his nails to come off, which if he cannot wear he could lose his job as footwear is required and there are no other positions available. Also being a type 2 myself I have never thought about this before so is also now in my thoughts.

Many thanks in advance

Wet winter nights
I wear safety shoes all day at work and they are not affecting my toenails in any way. Are they the right size for him as rubbing his toenails seems to suggest they are to small

I would say ill fitting shoes/boots.

I wear safety boots for work everyday. I walk an average of 16miles a day in them and had no problems.

But... unfortunately the boots my company supply are cheap and nasty. And just don’t fit me. I also have tiny feet (uk size 4). There supplier only does boots down to a size 5.

So therefore I buy my own, and my employer reimbursed me upto £35. Some others (non diabetics) found the boots fit badly and caused them problems, and as as we have to have them to work, HR authorities this for them to! I didn’t need the note as they can’t provide me size.

But worth looking into!
