I have been a type 1 Diabetic for 16 yrs. I have found that when I get a cut it takes months to heal and then I end up being scarred by it. Does anybody have any suggestions on why this happens. Please let me know.
Does this happen to anybody else

I've noticed that it happens to me too. Following surgery my GP told me that my scars were wider than usual and diabetes likely contributed to this. I've been told that good control means that scarring is less likely. Also try using things like bio oil - I found that really helped after my op.

I am type 2 and my legs have numerous marks from cuts, which take ages to heal. Most don't return to normal skin colour, leaving either a scar or a mark around the original cut site.

Loading a skip last week some how managed to get several cuts on my arm, and looks like these are going to take an age to heal as they are still redish around the cuts, even though my BS is a lot better than it was.

Can you get a run of the mill Bio oil from a chemist that doesn't cost the earth or would you need to go to somewhere like Holland and barratt. I only ask as I live in a small town with limited shops to choose from

Bio oil is a branded product, v expensive but fantastic at helping reduce scarring etc. boots sell a similar own brand oil, 'nourish oil'.

My feet have started buzzing since jan, quite shocked as 'thought' (and had been told) that I've always had good control (am striving for tighter control now to halt any further damage). My lower legs itch quite a bit, is that also related to peripheral neuropathy I wonder? I had a weekend off with the hubby, did lots of walking round London, thought I'd chosen 'sensible' flat shoes, but ended up with a few sore blisters...hoping they aren't slow at healing coz of this :( gonna get me bio oil on the job!
