Diabetes and Sleep Apnoea - Success

I started my CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) therapy and used my machine and mask yesterday. Feeling a lot fresher and it will taking get used to sleeping like this.

I've been suffering from constant fatigue and excessive daytime sleepiness for years and my Respiratory Consultant said it is very common in Type 2 diabetics.

The tiredness was always blamed on my diabetes but as my HbA1c and FBGs improved my symptoms never improved. And finally my GP sent me for a sleep study in hospital in February. This referral was made last November and that has been a long wait to get a diagnosis and treatment.

Anyone who sleeps 8 hours + and doesn't feel refreshed may have OSA and in extreme cases it is fatal as you do stop breathing whilst asleep.

Now my diabetes management can be better controlled.

Chuffed.

Edward. :)

Pleased for you!
It's another test that I had and my GP thought that it was sleep apnoea that was causing my disruptive sleep patterns and my lethargy, fatigue and mood swings.
Glad it wasn't, really! Can I say that?

It was all down to fluctuating blood glucose levels and hypers and hypos, weird dreams and waking up through the night.

Hope you have some sweet dreams, mate!

Don't think I could wear that mask though!!
