Hi Timbo, welcome to the forum! I have never experienced panic attacks while on Metformin but maybe someone else on here has. Sorry to hear that you've had this experience, do you have a lot of stress in your life right now? Are things better when you get a chance to relax?

Take care of yourself

I don't think its the metformin causing panic attacks, probably the thought of been ill, I was okay diet only, maybe a relization that its not going away. Now I take medication for it, thanks for replying.

Well Timbo, I have to say I was scared at the beginning, but if you choose to take control of diabetes and don't let it take control of you, then you will be ok. Keep coming back to the forum, I have found the support, hints, tips and motivation to be really helpful.

And ask lots of questions, we'll all try to help if we can!! :D

Hi tembo i m new on this form but have friendship ffrom long time with diabetese,so pl. dont worry just make adjustment, no need to worry, take the medicenes and try to live normal life

Hi Timbo! I read your query as to whether or not the panic attacks can effect the diabetes. The answer is yes. When we are stressed, the body releases cortisol which increases our blood sugar levels. So try not to worry about the diabetes. Being on metformin is a good thing not a bad thing. I had really good BGs on diet only, and was normal weight, but WANTED Metformin because of the good protection it provides against cardio vascular complications. I had to bully my GP into giving it to me! Just concentrate on your diet, exercise and resulting BGs; you are then doing the best you can so no point in worrying! Hard I know, but try.

Hi and welcome Timbo

The thing about panic attacks is that there isn't always an obvious reason for them, I had them badly for nearly 30 years with no obvious trigger..it just happened. There is usually background anxiety going on though and as SG said, fear of the fear can make life very difficult indeed.

Best thing for PA's is knowledge, arm yourself with the info you need and in your case, the realisation that although Diabetes can be classed as an illness in some, for the vast majority it is just a condition that we manage as best we can.
The worst case scenarios are certainly not a surety so please don't think they are. There is lots you can do to manage your diabetes successfully, don't panic about the meds (I HATE meds but have got over that hurdle at last!) and read how well people are doing here.

Take care.

I would advise that you should be calm and I wish you all the best to get better. All I know is this Metformin drug is an antidiabetic drug that most prescribe for type 2 diabetic patients and it also prevents cardiovascular infections and complications, reduces sugar count. Metformin works good so far.
