I have had assorted pains and problems with my tummy and other parts for some years. As I recently was diagnosed with diabetes I thought this might be related. I still don't know what type of diabetes I have, apart from inherited.

Could all or at least some of the problems I have had for the last four or five years, with numerous tests coming back normal, be due to diabetes? If so, what tests should I suggest?

Sorry, but you're pretty vague about the symptoms. Is it IBS-like symptoms? What kinds of pains? Whereabouts? Lots of things can be related to diabetes, but they can also be caused by other issues like Vitamin D or other vitamin deficiencies, dysbiosis, any number of things. If something medical is concerning you, I'd always suggest discussing it with your doctor.

I found a lot of my aches/pains, though not all, resolved when I cut grains from my diet (as did gastric reflux) and fixed my Vitamin D deficiency with supplementation.

Hard to describe really. Pain, but it moves around a bit, upper and middle part of stomach. Loose bowels. General discomfort. I have done numerous tests and even gastroscopy done four years ago, ultrasound twice. Everything is fine according to the doctors. I can live with it, no problem, but I would prefer to find a cause for if. And as diabetes seems to be associated with so many other things I wanted to hear what others here have experienced in the tummy problems department.

Have you tried various dietary changes to see what effect they have? I'm fairly sure that I had SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) prior to diagnosis - I also now know from a couple of inadvertent exposures to gluten since going grain free that it was probably huge factor in my gut issues. I know from experimenting that I have some FODMAPS issues going on:

I'd also recommend the Dr Mark Pimentel book, "A New IBS Solution".

Other things that have helped me have been supplements like betaine HCL with pepsin, pancreatic/digestive enzymes, vinegar, Vitamin D, magnesium.
