Diabetes causes everything!

What can I do stop everyone from Hospital Consultants down from answering every symptom I mention as being ‘well you do have Diabetes!’

I have been diagnosed with B12 deficiency which they treated with a loading dose last year - after having anaemia for many years and B12 being very low since at least 2015
My GP had done nothing it took a private appointment with Gastroenterologist to spur them into action.


In the light of recent information about Metformin which I have been taking for many years. I queried this with my GP as I also take a ppi inhibitor again for many years, and both have now been proven to lower B12 absorption. Shrug of shoulder and move on.

On a blood test in November last year I was shown to be at 50 and noted as ‘pre diabetic’ so I do not have uncontrollable diabetes type two.
I do not know how I can convey to my GP that my symptoms could be unrelated to diabetes.
 
I can't get my GPs to take my folate deficiency seriously, they give me 4 weeks treatment instead of the NHS recommendation of 4 mths and tell me to eat green veg.
But I like the suggestion of what would you tell someone [on my other prescription drugs and who isn't on a low carb diet].
 
I had this for years, until I got referred to a specialist endocrinologist. I was misdiagnosed with T2, until I had a hypo and subsequently was non diabetic on a fasting test, my hba1c levels were normal.
I'm using my experiences as an example.

I was told by numerous doctors that it was because of my T2. The reason, most GP's don't specialise in diabetes, once given that diagnosis, doctors insist on that first. They really wouldn't know, what to do. Hence specialist diabetic nurses, and if you can get a referral, endocrinology.

If you asked your doctor for his opinion of how your diagnosis developed, I doubt it he could
He would just give you the hba1c levels, which is true, but not how you got here!

Keep fighting, don't let him dismiss your other worries. Be insistent.

can you change your doctor? I have been looking for such specialists for a long time who could adequately work with diabetes, and not make it the cause of everything that happens to me. You could ask your endocrinologist about who it is better to turn to with a specific problem
 
Not sure where you are but it doesn’t sound like the uk. Type 2 rarely get an endocrinologist. And these days we rarely get to consistently see the same GP either. Practices are overfull and geographically restricted to residents so there often isn’t a choice.

Since the beginning of March most of the staff at my medical practice changed - we do not know what happened so I have a new GP no diabetes nurse and no continuity at all! The practice did have a special diabetic GP He was one of the worst ‘offenders’ but he has gone.
I have seen my new GP who has ordered a nerve conduction test but I will not get an appointment until after 8th May. He was the one who shrugged his shoulders when I mentioned Metformin causing low B12. So I quickly lost the anticipation I had getting a new GP.
 
I also be anaemic but nothing seems to get done however I do see the community diabetic Nurse on Wednesday this will be the first time I have seen anyone other than the Nurse at the surgery on over 13 years so am wondering what they will suggest
