Diabetes charity wants your opinion

Hi,

I am working for a national diabetes charity. We want to know how we can help people to manage their condition, specifically by using digital or mobile technology (for example, mobile apps that help you track your blood glucose, food, activity etc; better ways to interact with health professionals online; or any new technologies that would help you keep track of important health information).

If anyone has any thoughts I would love to hear them. Do you use any mobile apps for your diabetes? Is there anything you wish for that could help you manage your condition better?

MyFitnessPal app is highly regarded on the forum as one of the best ways to manage carbohydrate intake.
 
Cool, yes, it's a lovely app. I wonder if it would be helpful for MyFitnessPal to integrate with any other tracking apps - something we might look into is working together with companies to encourage data sharing..?
 
Agreed MFP is a good app and does merge with some other fitness apps, from a diabetics point of view could do with being able to merge with a a BG app to keep all info in once place.

Would the charity be interested in a way to heal diabetic ulcers easily? I just want to get the message out there that amputations because of diabetic ulcers are not necessary. I'm not in it for money, I just want to inform as many people as possible. If you can help with that I will be so grateful.

Unless you change your stances on the eat well food plate I will never use any mobile app on diabetes food advice.

I personally think its about time that this world gave apps a miss.

Whats wrong with going to GP clinics or hospitals and having volunteers who have successfully managed their diabetes to talk to people?

I'm personally sick to death of apps... That has to become a point of saturation....??

I know DUK etc go out to areas and hospitals with reps etc, by why not recruit good volunteers to actually talk to new patients, or patients that don't give a ****. Especially type 2's at gp's. Easy peasy.

Nowadays this is the only diabetic website I look at. I have my fitness pal. Tesco app for food is dreadful and I've told them.

Personally, not just cos my age or how long I've been T1but I've had my fill of apps...try talking and meeting people instead...

Tell us, we would all be interested in the method, and this is a big forum.
 
Until Diabetes UK stops advising that diabetics eat so many carbs, and promotes lowering carb intake (low carb diets) as an option for diabetics, I will not consciously support the charity in any way.
 
@donnellysdogs , You have just cheered me up so much.
I have a Tesco Hudl tablet that is a nightmare,and to make things worse the app for this forum on that tesco hudl is a double nightmare to use. ( thank goodness for my lap top )
I only hope DUK take action in your message with regard good volunteers.
