Our very own Low Carb Program has been awarded the Positive Social Impact Award at the Lloyds Bank National Business Awards UK 2016. The award was presented to Arjun Panesar, Co-founder of Diabetes.co.uk and Charlie Summers, Chief Operations Officer, on Tuesday 15 November at Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London. The award comes after the first birthday of the highly successful Low Carb Program. Since launching on the 14 November 2015, World Diabetes Day, over 165,000 people have taken part in the program. On average, over 6 months people taking part have reduced their HbA1c by 12 mmol/mol (1.1%), have lost 10kg of body weight and have reduced their waistline by 3.7 inches. The Low Carb Program has been great for individuals in helping them turn their lives around and, multiplied over the thousands of people that have joined the program, this adds up to a huge success for the nation as a whole, which the judges recognised: "We we're highly impressed by the sustained and effective positive social impact of Diabetes.co.uk. They evidenced clear and growing social impact in one of the most important health and social issues of our day. "Using innovative, engaging but simple behaviour change and digital strategies, they combine customer engagement, use of data and mobile alongside both academic, charity and health partnerships, saving NHS budgets, and saving lives." As the judges say, the program has helped NHS budgets as the program has helped reduce medication and 16% of people have even been able to come off at least one of their medications. Our Low Carb Program has shown very clearly that type 2 diabetes does not need to be an illness that gets progressively worse and, by taking on simple changes to diet, you can see your diabetes getting better and better. The program has been built for life, allowing people to achieve fantastic results with a lifestyle they'll be able to stick to for years to come.

Well done on your award. I was diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic earlier in the year. I embarked on the Low Carb diet and having lost 2 stone have been told that I am now in the pre-diabetic range and my blood pressure is very normal at an average of 117/70 after having been on meds for about 6 years. I am delighted to say that my doctor has discontinued all meds. I cannot speak too highly of this diet, thank you.

I think these results are just stunning. I confess I've only listened to a few of the videos but that's because I had already adopted an even lower carb intake before I knew the programme existed, so I already wasn't eating most of the things it tells you to cut down/out. However I can see it's a gentler approach than the all-in one I took, and therefore may be acceptable to a lot more people. So I intend to promote it to everyone!
