Just had a letter about my eye test of a couple of weeks ago saying there was a problem with the scanned images and asking me to book another test not the normal one but a slit lamp test I just was wondering what this entailed and what it is for.

Yes I think maybe my cataract in the left eye may have obscured things though on previous occasions with cataracts in both eyes there didn't seem to be a problem.

I had exactly the same earlier this year. It’s probably just because they couldn’t get a good image. A variety of reasons for this, the ones relevant to me were my small pupils despite the drops, and rare but not harmful is post cataract detritus. Anyway the slit lamp did the job - quicker than the regular test too. So don’t panic. Yet anyway;)

I had the same instructions after a retinopathy appointment. I went back and they basically looked at the back of my eye with different lenses near my eye.the reason for it was like others have said was due to cataracts on both eyes , so the camera they normally use can’t get a good enough picture the back of eye , I’ve had one cataract done awaiting other one i wouldn’t be worried

Yes same same but I could not go back to the same optician as spec savers are unable to perform a slit camera test so have had to choose from a far shorter list.

Well had the test yesterday optician was able to tell me the result straight away no diabetic changes. The main difference was she had to use double the amount of eye drops stung a bit and didn't wear off for hours.

Also was told that next screening will be with slit lamp as until cataract removed the digital camera will not be suitable.

Hmm. I'n not sure I'd place much trust in the 'no change'. I was told that the examination is a comparison looking for differences and that the resolution is much higher on the 'diabetes retina scan'.

Who knows? Both sides have a point of view.
