Type of diabetes

Treatment type
Tablets (oral)
I’ve woken up today with a really sore throat :(
Before Diabetes I’d reach for the Strepsils or Lockets, but I’m guessing they are all packed with sugar. What are the best sugar free alternatives people use? I’m ok with most sweeteners except saccharin, which I think spikes my blood sugars.

Ditto @bulkbiker 's salt suggestion - also, if you're looking for something sugar free, unmedicated but incredibly soothing I can thoroughly recommend a teaspoon of Hartley's sugar free jelly crystals made into a hot drink with boiling water and a bit of cold water. It's really soothing for a scratchy throat.

I use the cheapest regular salt.. not sure if Lo Salt would have the same impact so maybe the pink Himalayan if nothing cheaper like Saxa is available... you are too posh for me!

Me posh?! Nooo!!! :wideyed::joyful:

I swear by the chemists own brand throat spray. Numbs the sore throat straight away

Thank you for all your help, you lot never fail! I’ve tried two shops for sugar free lozenges today a small Tesco and a small Boots, both had plenty of added sugar ones, I’m starting to feel discriminated against. Hubby is out in my car tonight so is going to try a Tesco superstore for me :)

Phew! Hubby found some! Voice is almost gone tonight, but fingers crossed blood sugars seem ok. It’s the first illness I’ve had since Diabetes so hoping my levels stay down.

I hope you feel better soon and your BS behave. :)

I had my first illness since diagnosis (not bad in 4 years) a few weeks ago. I had an awful virus that caused migraines, disturbed sleep, face ache, sinus issues and an inflamed ear. It lasted 3 weeks, lasting right up to my last HbA1c - and my BS were all over the place! Typical bad timing. :banghead:

I had 4 days of higher than normal readings last weekend when I had a sore throat, cold and cough. I didn't beat myself up over it as I knew I had changed nothing in my diet so it must just be my body trying to cope. I'm now back down to my normal levels.
