I do not have diabetes
Hi all. Very confused. I was at the hospital a few months back and they mentioned my blood sugar was low. Two days ago I was back at the hospital and they said it was low again, it was 3.9. I went to a pharmacy today to get it checked (no food - just water) and it was 4.1 - she said that was low.

Do I have a problem here?
I'm 20 years old, relatively healthy, pretty much a normal weight. However I have diabetes on both sides of the family.

I have been feeling slightly tired lately and I do go for wees often and am very thirsty but otherwise I do feel quite alright.

Are these numbers dangerous?

Regards

Those numbers aren't dangerous, under 3.7 is considered a hypo so I wouldn't be too concerned. I'm a T2 and I'm quite often in the low 4's for most of the day. If you are concerned that you may develop diabetes it would be best to go for regular testing with your GP instead of constantly worrying.

Clinically (and in the UK at least ) anything below 4 is a hypo.

Perfectly normal. Don't worry about your blood sugar if it's around 4. I used to be at 3.8-4.2 before diabetes and occasionally much lower. As I too have diabetes on both sides I've always tested BG when I've had the opportunity and rarely above 5 even after food before I developed diabetes.

Diabetes mellitus is high blood sugar. There is also diabetes insipidus, peeing a lot but not due to high BG.More often due to head injury or pituitary dysfunction but often heals itself given time.

At least your doctor's tested your blood aha I had all the symptoms of Type 1 but when I went all they did was take a blood sample and send it off to see if I had diabetes but then I was rush in to resuscitation when I got there they did a blood test and told me straight away that I was type 1 and finding out my blood sugar was nearly 55 and the doctor said I was looking to be alive or in a coma, so I was in there for 3 days and had to go to the local doctors after and when I got there they told me I was type 1 after being in hospital for 3 days.

Story over...

Diabetes is diagnosed with HIGH blood sugars. Those high sugars cause thirst and frequent urination. That's why you may have heard of those symptoms.

Your sugars aren't high so it's very unlikely your thirst and tiredness is due to them. If you're concerned you may have some other health issues going on, you could see your GP for a general check.
