when i was diagnose 2 years ago. i consult a doctor at the hospital. we had a long chat, he told me that renal issue does not happen to all diabetics, however, it will be a slow progression of a decade or two.
1Kidney damage (protein in the urine) and normal GFRMore than 90
2Kidney damage and mild decrease in GFR60 to 89
3Moderate decrease in GFR30 to 59
4Severe decrease in GFR15 to 29
5Kidney failure (dialysis or kidney transplant needed)Less than 15
Mines is 23 the renal have always told me to look on my GFR as a percentage of function. Besides not everyone knows the renal jargon so I avoided using it
There is another thread on the forum where people were discussing how much their eGFR results had improved since adopting a LCHF diet, so if you're not already on the diet, it might be worthwhile trying.
My mam had kidney failure but she was old school thought if she didn't check everything would be ok. Went into hospital nine year ago and with other complication never came back out. That's she when I was diagnosed. As there is a lot of family members type 2 I cut down and reduced my test result from 78 last year to 44 last month.
