Hi, I hope someone can help.
A while ago, I was diagnosed as being borderline type 2 diabetic. My fasting blood sugar is usually around the 7 mark and with very careful management, fluctuates between 6 and 9 throughout the day - with the occasional spike in blood sugar level. I am on no medication for diabetes.
For the past year I have had bouts of extremely frequent urinating. I urinate on average every 40 minutes – even through the night. These bouts last about a week and occur every six weeks (roughly). Sorry to paint the picture, but the urine has no force, it trickles, and is very diluted. I have always had an extremely healthy intake of water, so I do not feel thirsty as such, although I do drink pretty much constantly, although as I said before, I always have done.
I have noticed a pattern that when my blood sugar goes into double figures, the frequency at which I have to urinate increases. Also when my blood sugar has been in double figures, it will drop 0.5 every 30 minutes.
I did get this looked into this time last year, where they searched for infections, did prostate and blood tests, x-ray, scan etc, but everything came back normal, by which time my symptoms had subsided, so nothing came of it. But this problem keeps returning!!!
Just so you can get an idea about me, I am a 46 year old male, I work out at the gym (cv and weights) at least 4 times each week and I play squash (at a high standard) twice a week. I am slightly overweight but extremely fit, as my recent stress test will back up. However I do have high blood pressure for which I am taking Losartan and Amlodipine, plus a statin.
After researching on the net, I discovered Diabetes Insipidus. The symptoms of this condition match my own, but the ‘outbreaks’ are sporadic.
Can anyone shed light on this? Could I have Diabetes Insipidus? Does anyone else have it have similar symptoms? Just want to do some research before I go back to see my GP – and what tests do I ask for?
