Hello all,

I have had the 3 uriane samples done all came back postive(over a 3 month period), as anyone else gone through this, and would i be sent for a biopsy to show which level of damage is done.
Would like to know if others have hag this done and to put my mind at ease
Cheers

My T1 husband has kidney disease. He's never been sent for a biopsy and is monitored by the renal unit at the hospital via blood tests. He's reduced his carbs, insulin and HbA1c and so far the condition is holding stable

Ps my non-diabetic brother had his kidneys damaged by an infection as a boy [he's now 62] and has been monitored infrequently for the last 50 years or so. He has about 25% total kidney unction and keeps in pretty good health.Never had a biopsy though. had scans over the years. Was in the 1968 British Olympic team. didn't get a medal, but was there.

Have they done a 24 hour collection test, to see what function is like!

As even though you might be testing positive for protein, it can mean that it's just leaking at this stage, you wouldn't normally expect to see a kidney specialist until your kidney damage reach a stage 3, the good news there is a lot you can do to turn this around... Damage lower than stage 3 can be reversed, but good diabetic control, keeping BP low etc... Even if you hit stage 3 and 4, it's possible with good control etc to keep things at bay maybe improve the situation but avoid total renal failure...

So yes be concerned, but don't panic just work on improving control etc..

I have had Stage 4 CKD for 6 years and have managed to keep it stable. My lowest count was 18% and my last one was 22%, down from the previous 26%. I am hoping my next blood test will see it over 25%. I see my renal consultant twice a year and keep a very close watch on my blood pressure, keeping it below 130/80 with the help of tablets. I am trying to lower my HbA1c. I have never had a biopsy, I have had an ultrasound scan and a CT scan
