Diabetes, life and all that - personal diary

I have a friend who got a kitten in October.

Xmas decorations went up 1st December.

...and came down on the 2nd, after the cat knocked the tree over for the third time in 24 hours. :D

Which is why this handsome fellow is spending the night in the kitchen with no access to the rest of the house.

The second tree was done today

I am beginning to think that when they are done decorating, we will have to invite the Mayor round to switch on the lights.

Only saving grace, no lights or decorations on the outside of the house. Thank the Lord!

Not sure he's telling the truth there, this is a shot of Pavlos' house from space.
He's the really bright spot in the centre of the island.

@douglas99

I am so glad that my wife is not in the room with me right now.

I am laughing so much she would be curious to know why and the last thing I want to do is show her.

Look on the bright side Pavlos

You're easier to see at night than North Korea :)

I'm thinking that some of the more adventurous Xmas light displays in some of my neighbors' gardens would make an interesting photographic subject.

If last year was anything to go by subtle and tasteful they are usually not.

Let's wait and see what they come up with this year.

My cold is a lot better. I went to the gym last night and spent a long time sweating away in the sauna and steam room and this seems to have helped.

I was at 6,0 mmol on waking up but this dropped to 5,2 before breakfast following my morning 5km walk. It felt good to be out there walking again.

Have a great day.

Re: Christmas

My husband has suggested (gently) to me that this year we don't have loads of tinsel and shiny baubles. Coincidence :). As a softener he said he would like lots of flowers.
Hmm! I'm willing to compromise. We've plenty of ivy, holly and mistletoe in the garden, and some hyacinths in a dark cupboard ( which probably won't be ready until mid January !) but I reckon some shine will be needed, so I'll work on him!:D

An unpleasantly muggy morning did not make for the most enjoyable of walks.

Overcast skies, Little light and no breeze made for a rather closed in oppressively warm atmosphere.

Makes me appreciate how fortunate I am to enjoy the excellent conditions I usually get during my morning walks

Ladies and gentlemen,

Rain has unfortunately suspended play...

Riding the bike to the tennis club today for my usual Saturday morning game, was with the benefit of hindsight, not the brightest idea I've ever had.

And it all looked so promising early on

The new fitter, leaner but definitely not meaner me.... Still soft and gooey on the inside.

Just spent a really enjoyable and inspiring hour reading this thread Pavlos. I love it! Makes me want to get going and live my life with the joy and positivity that you do. Thank you. And love your photos.

Having just completed my morning walk, I have just climbed back into bed to wait for everyone else to wake up as well.

There was a real autumnal feel about this morning, fallen yellowing wisteria leaves contrasting sharply with the terra-cotta tiling,

greeted me as soon as I stepped out onto the back patio.

The color palette was almost repeated in some old Christmas decorations, discarded by a neighbor, that caught my lens's attention.

As I usually do on Sunday mornings, I headed for the nearby monastery but not before stopping along the way to photograph colorful floral displays arranged on the ground by last night's rain,

Of course not all flowers were lying on the floor some plants were still holding on to some pretty spectacular displays of their own

In fact, some plants did not even need flowers to attract my attention

In keeping with this morning's autumnal mood, most of my walk was under a very fine drizzle, the kind that seems to hang and drift in the air and that always reminds me of walking across the Downs during my University years in Bristol.

The sober Byzantine chanting of the morning mass at the monastery fitted the mood of the morning so perfectly that I actually stopped to enjoy it. I can not say that I am a great fun normally.

Eventually I had to cut my walk short as the rain picked up in intensity but not before covering almost 7 km.

Beautiful as ever .
It's really cold in Scotland today . I did my walk but needed my hat and gloves . The sky looks like we could have snow.

In the best part of fifty years since my birth we have had snow in Nicosia twice as far as I can remember; on both these days, separated by decades, the snow was gone by midday, but while it lasted it was absolutely magical.

We do get consistent snow on the top of Mt Troodos every year but usually this is not until January or February.

So you would get some very long odds on us having a White Christmas!

Its for funny Pavlos but we don't get much snow in my area ,more than you obviously. Even when there's snow all around us my little corner doesn't get much sadly

Mt Troodos is about 80km and 1500m higher up in altitude from my home town of Nicosia. It is only an hour's drive and a day playing around in the snow is good fun for kids of all ages.
