Diabetes + MSG

Chemotherapy. Just finished it.
Hi

Each morning since I started taking morning fasting readings my BG has gone down slightly.

This morning my fasting BG was 9.0 my first time into single figures properly and that was a good start to the day.

For breakfast I had two eggs scrambled and three pieces of bacon fried in a little bit of virgin olive oil. I also ate an oatmeal dish that was made for me (I didn't ask for it but I did eat it!).

I forgot to take my Diamet 500 after breakfast.

For lunch I had a chicken salad and during the day I had three pieces of fruit (apple, pear and a kiwi).

When I got home at 5pm I took my morning pill (I wasn't sure what to do so I just took it).

At 8pm I had two squares of Lindt 70% cocoa dark mint chocolate.

Before dinner at 9pm I took a BG reading at it was 10.7 now that seemed really high but I put it down to the chocolate. After dinner I took my evening tablet.

At 10pm my reading was 12.2 - getting higher!

Now at 11pm it's almost 13!

For dinner I had some fish green curry that my wife bought on the way home from her work. Common practice in many roadside stalls here in Thailand is to put MSG into the food. If MSG was in the food could it explain the surge in my BG?

Kind of worrying me.

Thanks

Mick

Erm....

My wife just told me that they also put sugar and coconut milk into the green curry sauce.

Guess that might explain the surge but I'm still curious about the MSG. I tried Googling it and all I could find was :

"ingested MSG DOES result in higher plasma concentrations of free glutamic acid AND higher insulin levels as well"

Does that result in a higher BG reading?

All I know about MSG is that it gives me terrible migraines, so I leave well alone, anything that contains it. Though we are lucky here in Britain that they are gradually taking it out of more foods which gives me a bit more choice
