Diabetes or Not

I have all the symptoms of Diabetes. The excessive thirst, going to the toilet to pee a lot, tires and im sweating after eating. I had a monitor from a couple of years ago when the doctors wanted my levels checked so i checked them again. on waking they are around 6.4, before eating roughly 5.5 and after eating when im sweating they have been anywhere between 8.10 - 11.5. The GP did a hba1c blood test and told me it was normal at 33 but he was certain i had diabetes. Does anyone know if these tests are totally accurate or could i have diabetes even though the test is normal.

33 isn't diabetic (this number measures the average 'sugariness of your blood over 10-12 weeks) so is more indicative than the 'flash' readings you are taking. We can't diagnose you here but to me your sweating symptom sounds like some kind of reaction to a food. It may be useful to record what you are eating and note any reaction.
No idea about the peeing and thirst unless its a further symptom of your body trying to flush something out of your system.
It sounds unpleasant so I hope you can experiment with different foods and find an answer.

Thanks for the reply. It happens with all food so I can’t experiment with foods. I was just wondering if these blood tests are completely accurate. The GP was convinced it was diabetes as I have all the symptoms so I thought maybe the test could be wrong.

There are a number of conditions (eg anaemia) which can make the hba1c test inaccurate. A fructosamine test can be used as an alternate method.

Thanks for the information.I receive B12 injections every 12 weeks and i was wondering if you knew if this would affect the results. i did a brief search and i saw that it could but im wondering if this is true or not.

Depends if you are actually anaemic or not. Low b12 often comes alongside this but not always. The hba1c test measure’s glycation (sugar coating) of red blood cells so it’s conditions effecting the lifespan of these rbc that might matter.

how long after eating have you been testing? and after what sort of foods

i wasnt told if it was anaemia or not i was just told my B12 was low and i would need injections every 12 weeks. I have also been on folic acid for 6 months as that was also low. I was testing around 2 hours after eating and it was after a meal such as sandwiches my main meal which varied so basically different types of food. I have pancreatic insufficiency and i was told there was a strong possibility i could develop diabetes.
