First of all, what type of research? I don't want to be shoved full of drugs. And secondly, can you apply from outside the UK?

Sue,

I note that EMS is not a medical research establishment but is a market research company.

You have not made this information clear in your introduction, so before anyone further provides you with personal details that may be used solely for marketing purposes, can you please verify why you wish to compile a list of people with diabetes.

Until further clarification is received I would advise members not to provide information to this company (unless you like being bombarded with unsolicited mail, email, phonecalls, etc).

As Sue has already mentioned EMS is not a medical research establishment but a market research company.

They provide up-to-date databases of medical professionals and ailment sufferers (I have been called many things in my life time but that’s a new one on me :!: ) across all of Europe, specialist medical recruiters, and researchers with experience in dealing with the requirements of the medical industries namely major pharmaceutical and medical device companies to conduct research on products and medicines.

Working with major pharmaceutical and medical device companies to research new products EMS quotes “we provide the insight your organisation needs to stay ahead of the competition.”

All this personally leaves me with a nasty taste in my mouth.

I am not sure how much EMS have our best interests at heart.

Best wishes

An ailment sufferer (!!!!)

I have no experience of EMS, but have assisted other design agencies in the development of insulin pump-related products and devices. A few years ago I was involved in providing detailed user feedback on various prototypes over a number of months. Quite handy at the time I can tell you, especially at £150 per hour or part thereof! Cash. As someone who has complained many times about poor design, I was only too happy to help steer thinking in a particular direction. I'm not sure how else we expect products to change?

Yes we should be cautious, but not paranoid...

Sorry Kegstore I didn't mean to come across as paranoid in my response (ooh maybe I am!!!!!   ) but many people seeing the headline may dash into providing their details without thinking of asking relevant questions about what this market research company is actually doing, and as this forum is about advice and support I think that is what we are all providing by responding to this posting.

Its true that money is a huge financial pull for many people and that’s ok but there are so many dubious market research companies out there who claim that they are acting in the best interests of ailment suffers (!) but may have other agendas – hidden or otherwise.

My intention was just to get people to ask relevant questions – exactly what research would I be involved in, is the research qualitative or quantitative, which companies does the market researchers represent, how is the company funded etc. etc

Its great to read your positive experience.

best wishes
