Diabetes related Hearing loss

Hello there. Just been for a hearing test and told that I have significant nerve damage in the inner ear on one side only. Have been referred to ENT to discover what has caused the damage before they will provide me with a hearing aid. Has anyone either experienced or have knowledge of diabetes related hearing loss please? Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

There is also a particular form of D called MIDD which is inherited on the mothers side.
