Diabetes Reversal

I have been overweight/obese half of my adult life and have dieted on/off for most of it but this time I think I've finally nailed it and I keep saying to myself that this is going to be a permanent lifestyle change. I'm being conscious of everything I eat and keeping it low carb and avoiding sugar as best I can. I will allow myself the odd treat when I go out for a meal or a special occasion but even now when I go out for a meal I will think carefully what to pick off the menu. I am away for the weekend (camping) but I have planned what I am taking with me so should be OK. Now that I am seeing weight loss and lower BS levels it is certainly motivating me and hope my next HBa1c will show my hard work is paying off :-)

I'm so but peaple can say you can reverse diabetes but in my eyes all you can do is manage it,everyone goes on about low carb diet but all that does is stabilises it YOU ARE STILL DIABETIC

Hi @Badboydavey1
It will be best if you find what works for you.
No diabetic dietician would sanction high carbs for type 2 diabetes now. Insulin resistance is different to type 1. Most medics now recognise that now.
Try not high carb foods and you will be able to maintain without unneccessary meds.
Don't low carb for now and see if you fair ok.
Just keep your bgs down below 7.8mmol/l (meter reading) and you won't incur addition damage to what you have already, if any.
Good luck!

So reversal is a possibility? I am newly diagnosed and I've fought my weight for all of my adult life.i have seen what diabetes has done to members of my family and even the fairly small ones are suffering such bad effects. If I lose weight can I really love drug free? And if I do will I be able to eat sweets etc? Or have I come to the end of my sugary journey?

Losing weight helps enormously, but isn't all there is to it I'm afraid. Diet is the key to gaining control - and maintaining it. This is a life time game, not a short haul. Reversal means you are in remission, it doesn't mean you are cured. Return to old ways and you may be back where you started. Sad, but that's how it is. For the majority of us.

Yes I agree 'reversal' means 'remission' although a lot of people (including myself) thought you can actually 'cure' yourself once reversed. For now I will be just happy to get my weight loss and get my BS levels lowered but I doubt I will ever become a 'non-diabetic' ever again. My partner who is not diabetic had a reading of 5.4 2HPM after eating a plate of chips and sausages - that is the difference between a non-diabetic and diabetic as mine certainly would not have been that reading if I had eaten the same.

This presentation was pointed out on another thread (which I can't now find. Doh!). It is a presentation given by Professor Roy Taylor, updating his research into some aspects of T2.

I have read much of Professor Taylor's work and seen a number of presentations he has done, but this was just uploaded to YouTube a couple of days ago.

For those interested in Reversal/Remission/Control at Non-Diabetes levels (choose whichever label you prefer, there's some interesting data.
