Have had my first meeting with practice DBN. She was amazed at my results. Down from 80 to 39. I am now bordering on pre-diabetes readings. She asked how I did it. Told her about carbing to meter. My doctor told me last week to ask the nurse for a meter as I have some retinopathy. But she refused saying it was not approved by Nice. And with my current readings I don't need to test. Catch 22 really. I only got these figures from testing and the advice from LCHF people on here. Happy in one respect. P****d over the meter.

That is an excellent result. Do you mean 39 though? This is much better than borderline. It's a non-diabetic result. 41 and under is non-diabetic.

She is wrong about it not being approved by NICE. NICE recommends them for type 2's if they need one to help them self manage. However, with your low HbA1c it is unlikely in the extreme that you will get one.

Its a pain about the meter...........

you can usually get meters free from someone, its just getting some reasonably priced test strips on a regular basis............worth doing some research I say.....

well done on the HbA1c....:)

I have an SD codefree meter which I like using. I wanted one on prescription due to the cost of the test strips. I will do a bulk buy come pay day. And yes my reading was 39. She said that according to there chart normal is 38.5. I was happy with the reading as I had been unwell for about 2 weeks with a head cold which had raised my readings a bit. I am still getting the odd high over 10s. It's all thanks to this forum and the advice I have received that I have managed to get this far. So to everyone that has offered me advice. Its a very big thank you from me.

I love seeing others doing so well on LCHF. I think eventually if doctors, nurses, and dieticians see enough type 2 people succeeding in normalizing their blood glucose levels they may start to be more receptive to the idea. Right now they are taught or have decided from patient results that it is very rare for someone with type 2 to achieve normal BG levels through diet/exercise alone. One HCP even told me it was only 1-2% that can do it. I believe it would be much closer to 100% if people went on a LCHF diet and their diabetes was diagnosed early enough.
