My mom died of diabetes and I want to ensure I don’t fall into the same, I want to be friends with anyone who has it and I want to know how they live with it

What type of diabetes? Although there are commonalities amongst them, the treatments are not all the same.
In addition, how you approach this is important.
I have T2 and making lifestyle changes that have a huge impact already.
Contingent on diabetes type e.g. T1 there is the genetic/family inheritance aspect. You need to find out which one your mother had. Then educate yourself on the appropriate strategies. Sometimes medication, sometimes lifestyle changes - it is contingent on which type you are referring to.
There is a lot of info around here - so have fun and do not become anxious! If, at worst case, you are diagnosed it is treatable and manageable!
you do not have to be a victim.
become and advocate to avoid it with knowledge. You do not have to be a medical person - much of it is actually common sense but people (like me) ignored it.
