What type of diabetes? Although there are commonalities amongst them, the treatments are not all the same.
In addition, how you approach this is important.
I have T2 and making lifestyle changes that have a huge impact already.
Contingent on diabetes type e.g. T1 there is the genetic/family inheritance aspect. You need to find out which one your mother had. Then educate yourself on the appropriate strategies. Sometimes medication, sometimes lifestyle changes - it is contingent on which type you are referring to.
There is a lot of info around here - so have fun and do not become anxious! If, at worst case, you are diagnosed it is treatable and manageable!
