Been on Thyroid meds since the age of 25 years , was diagnosed with Diabetes at the age 65, started on diet to control Diabetes then put on meds then eventually Insulin, had to take statins which caused me to have Polymyalgia was taken off statins and put on 15 mg steroids as inflamation was high managed to taper down to 2 mg after almost a year on steroids only to be given statins again which after two weeks set the Polymyalgia off again so had to stop taking statins, what I am wondering is has anyone else had trouble when put onto statins? am now waiting for a phone call which will be in 4 weeks time with the Doctor to see what they have decided I need to have.

Hi @PatsyB , I was offered statins many times but didn’t want to take them because of the potential side effects. I consulted Dr Google (I know not always the best thing to do!) and found a drug called Ezetimibe. I asked my GP for this and he was happy to prescribe it. All drugs of course have side effects but I haven’t suffered any on Ezetimibe.

will ask but doubt they will prescribe, thank you for the info.

I am on Atorvastatin. Lately, I've been experiencing myalgia. Over the past months, my A1c and lipids have been improving. My A1c likely going down from 49 last month, and my most recent non-HDL cholesterol at a normal level. Could this improvement be causing a myalgia side effect of the statin?

I had to stop taking statins due to it causing Polymyalgia my inflammation levels were sky high
