Hi all.

A few questions but I'll cover them in two topics.

Does anyone have Diabetes Type 2 and Epilpesy. Hubby newly diagnosed Type 2, but struggling with Type 2 medication and understanding readings on home monitor. May be early days, but originally wanted to control Type 2 with diet (or an eating plan as I like to call it) but GP kept calling him back saying he should consider medication as his Hba1c was 6.8 and his early morning monitor readings before brekkie fluctuated between 6.3 and 9.9. He was also feeling tired and light headed and suffered a couple of urine infections.
Problem is his Epilepsy is poorly controlled (after 32 yrs) and is described as having Severe Intractable Epilepsy and suffers around 5 to 10 partial seizures every week - usually in clusters.
I've always mainained that seizures are often triggered about an hour after evening meal (our main meal) but nobody in the Health Care Profession seems to listen or acknowledges there may be a link?

Thanks.

My Mum has both Type 2 diabetes and epilepsy, she hasnt had any seizures for years, she told me that her T2 diabetes was diet controlled and she could basically go back and see the nurse or not, it was up to her. I dont know if she is maybe telling me the truth or not, my Son is T1 and my Mum wont let him test her bs. Sorry i couldnt be more help but maybe there is a link with both. I,m sure someone will be along with more info

Hi I have type 2 and seizures,
My seizures are classified as nead(non eperleptic associated disorder) in other words i have seizures!
Alot of them are full blown! I can suffer up to 9 in a day! i suffer daily with seizures!
Thing is i find that if my blood sugar is too low... below 5, or too high over 18,
Then my seizures do get worse!
It would be best if he had a little snack in the afternoon! I am on no medication for the seizures or diabeties!
what are you having for evening meal?
As there could be a big link between the two!
My last test through the doctors came back at 6.8, It is down from 9.8 when i was diagnoised!
My Gp says that she would rather stay off meds until it is at the point of no return!
Is your hubby having a snack before bed/> If so what?
All this can be releated to one another!
Sorry for the questions! But i am in your hubbys place right now! The seizures can get bad after meal! I find that the more stressed i am the worse they are!

Hi sweetenuf,

Yes, I have Type 2 Diabetes and Epilepsy. I was diagnosed with Grand mal Epilepsy just over twenty years ago when I was still in my mid-30s when I started having inexplicable seizures. A brain scan and CAT scan revealed I had “irregularities in the temporal lobe” (which is how the specialist described it). At the time I had my own business as a TV aerial fitter, which obviously I had to give up. It also meant I had to give up driving. I’m on Epilim 200mg which I take three times a day and have been on them for the best part of sixteen years. I still have seizures, sometimes I can have as many as nine a week while other times I can go three weeks without experiencing any at all. But in my case, there is no particular pattern as and when my seizures take place. The only exception to this is thunderstorms (particularly lightning) often seems to trigger a seizure. I do suffer from pounding headaches following a seizure.

I can’t say my Epilepsy has ever been a problem with my Diabetes (or vice versa). It is however interesting that you say your hubby has suffered a couple of urine infections because I am currently experiencing a recurring Urinary Tract Infection, which has been ongoing since the beginning of May, but to be honest, I don’t think my Epilepsy has anything to do with it. I think mine is more down to poor control of my diabetes. I’m not suggesting the same applies to your hubby.

I’m sorry I couldn’t be of much help but I do hope you manage to get everything sorted.

Dave
