Got a bit carried away on another thread about my thoughts about the damage I had caused through neglect
All caused by thinking I wasn't diabetic and as such , not doing my insulin
I used to check 4 times a day ect but I'm lucky of I check 1 every 3 months ....

Hi dubzn1. By posting here you are sending a message that you want to change things, so now is the time to take control again, and gain the sense of satisfaction and self-esteem that you need from being able to measure how you are able to turn things round. Don't let diabetes control and ruin your life: ignoring it means that you are letting it win. You know deep down that you CAN regain control -- go for it!

I need a good reality check but everything I do , I get to a point and think why bother ?
Not being allowed to work is frustrating
I tried for a long time doing my diabetes precisely as it should be done but I felt horrendous and me and my good lady ended up splitting for a short while due to the foul moods I was in
Only myself to blame but I keep trying

Blame the old you, but not the new one who is now trying to fix it. Set yourself smaller, incremental targets and goals -- the key is to be going in the right direction. If you find you have bad mood swings when you are getting better control, and they don't lift even when you have your BGs more steady, then do see a doctor about it -- there may be other things going on. Try to get onto a DAFNE course - it may give you the extra boost to recharge your batteries, try a new game plan, and you may also meet other diabetics who can help.
Most of all -- don't give up. You're trying to confront your problems and reverse things and that takes real guts. Even if you can't reverse much of the damage, you can stop the downward momentum, and regain the sense that YOU are the one calling the shots, not the diabetes.
I'm sure you can do it -- the best of luck with it.

What's a DAFNE course?

DAFNE stands for Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating and is a carb counting course for type 1 diabetics. Basically it teaches you the skills to match your insulin to the food you eat, it also covers most aspects of day-to-day diabetes management (exercise, sick-day rules etc) and is a very worthwhile course to take, if you type DAFNE in the forum search facility you will find 100's of posts from members who have been on the course.
