Diabetic Breast Mastopathy

Hi, I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place or asking the wrong question! I've been on a fast track appointment for breast changes and have had 7 core biopsies on both breasts. On Thursday I went back for my results and was told I have a fibroadenoma in one breast and mastopathy in the other. I confess I didn't ask enough questions whilst there because I was in a hurry to get out of there so I could tell my family it's not cancer.

I am not diabetic but my mother is, she has tablets and injects insulin.

Does this mean I am or will be diabetic in the future? Any advice will be gratefully received.

Sorry to hear about your problem. I can imagine how stressful it must be.

I can't answer your question, but I remember a lady here had diabetic breast problems. A search may find her thread.

If you're concerned about diabetes, you could ask your GP for a simple blood test. That would put your mind at rest.

Thanks for the message. I've tried searching this but it just comes up with people that have type 1 diabetes. I can't find anyone that has this but isn't diabetic! I am seeing my GP so hopefully I will find out there.

Mastopathy occurs in non-diabetics as well as diabetics. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20492384

If you are not currently diabetic (as identified by a blood test), there is no reason to suppose you would be any more likely to develop diabetes just because you have mastopathy.
