Hi All,

Iwas diabetic 6 months ago but later controlled it through diet (recent HbA1C test came to be 41 mmol/mol).. I am now trying to buy a medical insurance however if i select that i am diabetic then the price for insurance just gets doubled.
if i hide that i had diabetic then the insurance prices is just half.
Can someone suggest how far in the past 1 can go to find out if i ever was diabetic.. i mean if i am not diabetic right now then is there any way the insurance companies can find out if i had diabetes in the past (6 months or 1 year ago)? immediate help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Can you contact companies directly? I found that the websites just do not have the ability to cope with diabetes in remission.

To answer your question directly if you need to claim on your insurance the company can obtain a report from your doctor regarding your previous health. In the UK if you fail to disclose anything which would have affected the insurers decision on the premium, or whether to offer cover they can pay a smaller amount, or refuse the claim. You must answer all the questions you are asked honestly.

if you were diagnosed as diabetic in the past you are now still diabetic but in remission (in their eyes).

if you are not in The UK your laws may be different (Canada and the US are very similar to the UK).
