IMG_7690.JPG We're currently at Center Parcs on holiday. This sign made me chuckle! :joyful:

Bread isn't good for ducks or any birds. Ducks would naturally eat water weed. iirc bread does result in them getting fatty livers, so perhaps they would become diabetic.

Bread gives ducks, geese and swans Angel Wing, messes with their metabolism, eventually kills them, and also any uneaten bread that sinks to the bottom causes more problems with water pollution. We take lettuce leaves to feed the ducks on our river.

They'll likely confiscate it.......lol

I'm quite struck by the similarity between what people think is a suitable diet for ducks, and the advice given to diabetics, to be honest. I feel sure that, if I followed it, I'd be on the endangered list too.

I wonder what the food you can purchase is? And how much...

I'll look in the ParcMarket to see what, the recommended food is and how much it costs if I remember when I'm in there next. Hubby did comment that he'd seen squirrel food there which just appeared to be nuts and raisins.

Ducks like oats, in Alton signs are up at Kings meadow to ask people not to feed bread and two guys in their lunch break go down and feed the ducks oats.
Some foods for ducks. :-
As omnivorous birds, ducks will eat many different foods, and the best foods to offer ducks include:
  • Cracked corn.
  • Wheat, barley or similar grains.
  • Oats (uncooked; rolled or quick)
  • Rice (cooked or uncooked)
  • Milo seed.
  • Birdseed (any type or mix)
  • Grapes (cut in half or quartered if very large)

Neither is force feeding corn to geese for "pate foie gras", I wonder how many of the geeses were diabetic. :D

Ducks (and geese and chickens and quail) love any leafy green veg and weeds- well, my lot all did when I used to keep them. As a treat we used to hand feed them defrosted frozen corn and thin slices of apple or other fruit which they adored but, as @Tipetoo says, you have to be very careful with quantities.
