Hi everyone,

I hope you're all doing well. I'm reaching out for some guidance and would like to apologise for the images attached, but I thought they might help.

I've been managing type 1 diabetes since 1999 and recently, I've noticed some dark patches on my feet that look like bruises, along with swelling that makes it feel like my socks are too tight, even though they're not, I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something similar and if it's normal or related to my diabetes.

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help

Thanks, Paul Smith

Hi @paulmgsmith

Unfortunately forum rules don’t allow anyone to diagnose or give medical advice. Getting anything unusual or worrying on our feet as diabetics whatever type should be checked out by a HCP. The best advice we can give you is to make an appointment with your GP ASAP as things can sometimes change quickly

Thank you for all this relevant information and also explaining the rules and regulations as I was not aware of any of this, much appreciated

Nothing on the swelling, definitely get that checked out.
But just maybe on the dark patches. They're both on 'hollow' parts of your feet that by nature won't get rubbed by socks, shoes, bedsheets. If you only have quick showers, no soaking or especially cleaning your feet, can it be that a good soak and a mild scrub gets rid of them?
Could be just the last of your summer tan that hasn't rubbed off.

Also, keep an eye on your pinky toe, looks like your shoe or sock is chafing it.

Thank you for your very detailed reply and relevant information, I appreciate you taking the time to reach out to try and help.

I will be making an appointment for the dark patches to be checked but you can imagine appointments don’t come easy these days sadly.

Agree on tue little pinky think my work boots did that, have changed them and kind of hoping for the best as the days go by
